Bristol Baseball Club’s teams swept their opponents over the weekend.
The Badgers, who were making their debut in the BBF AA central league, beat Cambridge Monarchs 5-3 and 22-8, while the Bats won a slugfest against the Newton Brewers 33-26.
In Cambridge, the Badgers won a tight first game with pitcher Deivydas Trinkunas producing a match winning performance from the mound.
Over seven innings, he struck out six Monarchs giving up just two hits as the Badgers backed him with some excellent defensive plays.
In the second game of the double header, catcher Rhodri Theaker had a stellar day at the plate.
He scored four runs, got three hits, batted in three runs and stole three bases during the victory.
“As a first performance in AA, it was excellent,” said Tom Hollies, the Badgers manager. “It was a great team effort and every player showed great dedication to putting in the best performance.”
It was home runs galore in Newton Abbot, with the Bats hitting five. Nerius Tamosiunas hit three while his brother Darius and catcher Tom Rowe both hit their first career dingers.
Nerius also pitched seven innings to round off a strong all round game.
“I’m really proud of our guys hanging in there over a tough back and forth game,” said Keith Weinberg, the Bats manager “A lot of credit should go to the Newton Brewers for a hard played contest.”
The Badgers welcome Stourbridge Titans to Somerdale Pavilion this coming Sunday for a double header. The first game starts at noon.
The Bats have a bye weekend.
