Bristol Buccaneers maintained their position as Severn Division leaders after sweeping New Forest Knights at Somerdale on Sunday to win their double header. The Buccaneers were strong on both sides of the plate winning 15-4 and 20-4 to stay two games ahead of Weston Jets at the top of the BBF/SWWBL Severn Division.

Luca McCurdy had a big day with the bat, with three hits in game 1 not even being the highlight.

Although the Buccaneers got off to a slow start with the bat in game one, they quickly took control with third baseman Luca McCurdy leading the way with three hits and three runs driven in. First baseman Jean-Pierre Bernard hit well, driving in two runs, while Will Marshall continued his dominance on the mound, striking out six Knights during his complete game performance.

Harley Jones had had an excellent debut as starting pitcher on Sunday, claiming four strikeouts

In the second game, Matt Dunkley-Roberts and Will Marshall had six hits and drove in six runs between them as the Buccaneers scored freely from the first pitch. Harley Jones and Noah McCurdy dominated from the mound with Jones, making his pitching debut, striking out four batters over three innings and earning his first win.

The highlight of the second game was a three run home by McCurdy but the whole Buccaneers offense was on top throughout with no strikeouts against them.

We were very solid in every aspect of the game and I was delighted that Harley had his first outing as a pitcher and threw well over 50% strikes,” said Buccaneers manager Rod McCurdy. “We have set our sights high this season and we are in a good position but the team is determined there will be no let up until the season is finished”.
